Algebra Class Reflection

1. Do you feel like the tests have been reasonably challenging? If they are challenging to you, what makes them challenging? If they are not challenging to you, what types of problems would make them more challenging?

2. Do you feel like Mr. Jobe adequately prepared you for the tests? Explain why or why not.

3. What has been your favorite part about math class so far? What has been your least favorite part?

4. What suggestions do you have to improve this class?

  1. 1. I feel that the tests have been challenging. The word problems make the tests challenging because in order to solve a word problem, you have to write out the five-step plan. That takes away precious time. Also, you have to be able to depict what you are solving for, and what variables you should use to represent what you are solving for. It is very hard to take a few sentences and turn them into an equation(s) of mathematical symbols. I think that is what makes our tests challenging.

    2. I feel that Mr. Jobe has reasonably prepared us for the tests because he goes through every lesson quickly but steadily. Also, he checks our homework and asks if anyone has any questions. If we do, then he does them on the board or he just explains them, which I think helps us a lot! He has a lot of information on Keynotes he shows us, and if we take notes using those Keynotes, those notes are useful for studying for a test. So, I think that Mr. Jobe has adequately prepared us for the tests so far.

    3. My favorite part about math class so far was the project. I had a lot of fun working on those 30-minute videos and trying to think of real-life situations that would apply to certain properties in math. I also liked that Mr. Jobe let us choose who we would work with. I think that this allows us to have a lot of freedom and it lets us work better together in our groups.

    4. I do not have any suggestions to improve this class. I like it just the way it is now, and I'm satisfied with how the class is going so far every day. Overall, I think that Mr. Jobe is very good at teaching, and I like some of his teaching methods. I also like how he gives us review games from time to time, which livens the class up a little bit.

  2. 1.Yes, I do feel that the test have been reasonably challenging because I feel like the difficulty of test and quizzes are suddenly jumping up from 7th grade just like when I was in 6th grade. For me, problem solving are challenging because I usually have to interpret the problem into equation and solve it and while doing that, I usually create mistakes.

2.I think Mr.Jobe adequately prepared us for the Properties Quiz however, not the first test we took because I think we went too fast so I kind of had some time at home studying the things I learned in class.

3.My favorite part about math class so far was creating a properties video and the least favorite part was the first test we took.

4.I suggest that when we are moving fast on a chapter, we should go not as fast as the first test we took because I did not understand few things.

    2. Hi Sean. Remember, if we are moving too fast or you need help, stop by my classroom before school, after school, or right after lunch. I can answer any questions you may have.

  3. 1. I think that the tests were challenging enough. I can know that the test was challenging enough by my grades. If the tests were too easy for me, I would have gotten a high mark than now. Personally, I believe that the word problems were the hardest because they can be confusing.

    2. I think that he adequately prepared for our tests because, he does rush through the lessons but that is because the lessons we learn today is mostly reviewing and we know how to do the lessons. Also, checks all out homework questions and explains the ones we don't know the answers so that we get prepared for our tests.

    3. My favorite part about math class so far was the property project. Property project was a little challenging, but we learned the property through real life examples and we also had fun. My least favorite part about math class this year is the riddle worksheets. I just don't like them.

    4. To improve our class I think a little more fun activities like the review games. Not only does it help us to learn the lesson students will get competitive and try more harder than usual. If there is a prize for the winner, students will try solve the question accurately and quickly and their accuracy and speed might Improve. Also, I personally want more fun.

I think that the tests are around the mids of challenging and easy, I personally think that it's a little bit more challenging than it is easy, but I think that making the tests challenging motivates us to study more which gives us a better understanding, what I don't want is tests to be so hard that I get F's after studying for 5 hours a day, that would really be horrible.

    2.
Yes, Mr.Jobe totally kept warning us about the test coming up and about the quiz after that and you gave us plenty of time to prepare and you also made us do that review games.

    3.
I think Mr.Jobe is really funny and fun to learn with unlike some teacher whom I will not bring up, He keeps the class alive and makes it an environment where it's hard to doze off in, unlike some teachers classes where dozing off is extremely easy, and nothing seems really bad about this class.

    4.
I personally don't see any problems with the class, and I'm not that great with improving things, but if Mr.Jobe could get like 20 sofas in here and replace the desks with coffee tables, trash the projector and screen and replace it with a plasma screen TV, and install a soda dispenser where all the chess games are stacked up, it would be like the most awesome class, but other than that I think the class is great.

  6. I feel that the test is just reasonably challenging, it isn’t too hard, but isn’t too easy either. The unique parts about the questions make them harder than usual homework questions, It requires us to think is another way and we have to learn to use the solving procedure instead of memorizing parts of the textbook.

Mr. Jobe have prepared us for the test well, he had been giving us just enough homework and classwork to keep us going. We can take more notes if we want, and out school depends on how much we focused during the test instead of how many hours we studied at home

My favorite part so far is the Mr. Jobe’s humorous explanation on math terms, instead of just talking near the whiteboard for the 90 minute, he gives funny examples and allow us to have fun and learn at the same time. My least favorite part are the speed which we are learning, we often jump from pages to pages, and jump back and forth in a class, I think we’d work more efficiently if we just focus on one page and just progress on the textbook, instead of jumping back to a certain page to review during a non-review class.

My suggestion is to have us do more review games , it is very fun to play them and it would make us learn faster and have fun, a happy student is more focused and work more efficiently.

  7. 1.To me the test was pretty good it wasn’t to hard or too easy it just felt so-so to me. The reason why was part of the test was easy like first few problems. Then as I went on it got a bit more challenging with some definitions like intervals. This question I didn’t get how to solve so I used the consecutive integers formula to find the ages of all four cousins in the problem. However the first test I took was very challenging mainly because I didn’t prepare neither did I focus during the first few classes. So I prepared came to take the test and I think I did okay.

2.Yes I think Mr. Jobe did a awesome job because usually in Math classes I sleep or I day dream of going home and chilling with my friends but in this class you don’t have to watch a boring keynote for at least a hour. In our class we do activities like review games, warm-up questions, watch videos of Properties, and much more. Also his extra help made it more easier to do math.

3.My favorite part of math class the math review games. Even though I’m not good at math and not really a math person I enjoy doing these games and not just solving questions for reviewing for a test. The least favorite part of math class are the test that we take. Mainly because you never know if your right or you are wrong so I don’t really like tests.

4.To improve in this class I think we should have options to do extra practice sheet before the test so we can see were what areas to improve on. But there really isn’t much to improve the class.

  8. 1. I feel that the tests have been reasonably challenging. Difficult problems that make you think more could make the it more challenging. However everything that comes out in the tests are what we learned, so they are pretty easy overall.

    2. I feel that Mr. Jobe adequately prepared us for tests. I think we practiced one type at least 5 times so that we could go over again and again. This made me fully understand the type so that I could do better in the future.

    3. My favorite part about math class so far are the review games. They were pretty challenging when there was time limit. It allowed us to practice math problems and try to not make mistakes. I think it helped me reduce my mistakes. Also, Mr. Jobe’s humour always makes the class more entertaining. I like just about everything in this class.

    4. I don’t have any suggestions to improve this class, it’s perfect! I like the way Mr. Jobe’s class goes.

  9. 1. Think the test was pretty challenging because there was little bit of things that where confusing and the word problems were challenging too. Is hard to put it in a equation or expression. After that solving is pretty easy. Another reason why the word problems are challenging is that if you make one little mistake or just jump or miss a word then you get the whole problem wrong and sometimes you need to do it all over again and that takes long time.

    2. I think Mr,Jobe did adequately prepared us for the test because I knew how to solve them and know all the steps. He gave us a lot of time to study for this test too. He does a lot of fun activities that makes you brain easier to memories and learn things that you forgot or didn't notice when you were learning. I think the white board activity was great because I could learn things I missed when I was studying.

    3. My favorite part in this class was making the 30 second video. It was really fun because you could enjoy making those video and have fun and creative ideas about things. Watching and making the videos made me understand the concept or the property better and easier.

    4. I think to improve this class we need to do more activities and do more of those partner projects because we could get to know each other better and understand the concept easier and better. Is better to work with many people than doing everything alone and having stress.

  10. 1.) I think the tests have been reasonably challenging. They are challenging because some things we have learned in the beginning of the chapter are a bit confusing.

2.) I think Mr. Jobe is prepared to teach class because he always knows before what are classwork is, what are homework is, and what are lesson is about.

3.) My favorite part of math class so far is the review game. My least favorite part of math class has been worksheets, they are good practice, but I do not enjoy them very much.

4.) My suggestions are that instead of going through a slideshow for the lesson all the time, maybe he could teach us in a different way occasionally.

  11. 1. I do not think that the tests we've taken so far was that challenging, although I kind of got confused on my first test. Problems I knew how to solve was incorrect because of silly mistakes, or confusions, especially in word problems. I think it is important in which time of the day you take the test, because usually in the morning or the last block, I feel tired, and it's hard to use my brain well. The second test I've taken today was pretty easy, and I hope for a good grade. However, I hope the test won't become more challenging than this.

    2. Yes, because Mr. Jobe have gone carefully over each steps in solving the problems every class, and gave us many practice worksheets and homework that would help us. He also made time for some of us to go see him if we did not understand a certain problem, and I think this is enough for us to be prepared for the tests.

    3. My favorite part about math class so far is the review game we played last class before the test date. I hope we play more games like that in the future.

    4. I'm not sure with this question because I think this class is great the way it is. I just hope for more fun activities in the future. I also felt that we were covering lessons a bit too quickly. It was okay for the last two chapters because it was nearly a review for me, but I would be worried if we would go at this pace for other chapters in the textbook. Other than that, I really appreciate my algebra class! :)

  12. 1. The tests have been okay. They weren’t challenging but they weren’t easy either. The word problems were a bit challenging, but everything else was very straight forward. To make the tests a bit more challenging, there should be more word problems and the wording in them should be made to be confusing. Other than that, it’s all okay.

    2. Yes, because on the test, all the questions were similar to what we did in class, and I remember no concepts that we didn’t cover that came out in the test. Also, the explanations made in class are very easy to understand.

    3. My favorite part about math class so far was the review games. They are a good way to know what will come out in a test or a quiz, and it’s fun too. My least favorite part was taking the tests. Although I know that they are necessary, I don’t enjoy taking them.

    4. I don’t think that needs to be any more improvements. The class is very fun and I think I learn a lot of information too.

  13. 1. No, I don’t think it was challenging overall, to say the truth, it was pretty easy. However, the problem is that I make lots of minor mistakes. I think some example of hard problems are the problems that includes writing vocabulary.

    2. Yes, I think Mr. Jobe adequately prepared me for the test. The reason is that when I was doing the test, I knew all the properties and knew what he was asking for. Also, Mr.Jobe had explained the concepts of math very easily and enjoyably.

    3. I really enjoy working with Mr.Jobe again, who was my math teacher last year again. It is very enjoyable taking your fun classes. I think the most enjoyable part was when we are doing test review games. I think the least favorite part is that I am sitting at far back, so I can’t see well. I hope you can change the seats if thats possible! Thank you ! :)

    4. In the last test and quiz, I made mistakes in everything I knew because I did simple math wrong, saw the number differently or write the answer down differently from what I have solved. So, I think I have to practice a lot in checking after finish my test.

  14. 1. I think that the tests have been reasonably challenging. There were some difficult and confusing problems that made me think a lot, and I sometimes had to comeback to a few problems too. But most of the questions on the test were easy since we’ve learned everything in class.

    2. I feel like Mr. Jobe adequately prepared us for the test. We do a lot of practice questions during class, and I think that’s how we get ready for our tests. So this makes us understand the formulas and how to solve the problems easily.

    3. My favorite part about math class so far was the review games we did in class. Some questions that we solved during the review games were a little challenging, I could fix my mistakes and learn faster in a fun way. Since we do many activities that makes math class fun, I don’t think there’s a least favorite part about our class.

    4. I don’t have any suggestions to improve our class because everything we do is helpful and fun!

  16. 1. I think the tests have been reasonably challenging to me because there were some questions that I felt that was hard. Same for everyone, but word problems are always most challenging. However most of the problems were things we’ve learned so, I think it was pretty easy.

    2. I feel that Mr. Jobe’s test was a greatly prepared test because there were some questions that we could get it right easily, some difficult problems and he gave us bonus questions.

    3. To be honest I like everything about this class especially the teacher. Last year I had Mr. Jobe, but I had to move because of my chinese class changed. I heard so many compliments about him and I think they are all right. Most of the math classes can be boring, but Mr. Jobe always try to cheer us up with his sense of humor. Our math textbooks are very heavy so I try to keep it in my locker and if we had to do our homework outside of class, my bag would’ve been super heavy. However he gives us time to finish our homework during class so that is another thing I like about the class.

    3. I don’t really have any suggestions for this class. I like the way it is now. Mr. Jobe is really good at teaching and I like the review games.

  18. 1. Yes, the test have been reasonably challenge for me I think. Because the number and the expression is more complicated. Sometimes we have to be more patient and careful to solve these problems. And we have to double check it to make sure our answer is right. And vocabulary is also a big problem for me. I know I have to work on it.

2.I think Mr. Jobe adequately prepared us for the tests. Before tests or quizzes we always have review games. And we've got enough practise for HW.

    3. My favorite part of the class is probably the review game and watch the videos. Both of them help us to learn quickly and remember some key points easily.

    4. I think we are moving too fast. I know for most of us it is review. And I want to do more projects to help us learning. And I think we need more practice. We can do more worksheet or classwork to improve this lovely class. To be honest, I really love my Algebra class now. It's fantastic.

  19. 1. I feel that the test are reasonably challenging. I think that the word problems makes the test more challenging. I love the bonus part of the test!

    2. I feel that Mr. Jobe has adequately prepared us for upcoming tests. He reviews the materials that are going to come out on each test. By solving more math problems during class time, not just for our homework, I get to prepare more for the test.

    3. I totally loved playing review games as a team and as an individual. I get to take a role in teamwork, but at the same time, prepare for tests. Also, my favorite part of the math class is the class itself. Unlike other classes, where I sometimes, doze off into another world, math class always intrigues me, and keeps me wide awake. I don't have a least favorite part of the class so far!

    4. I don't have any suggestions for this math class. Students are so nice, and Mr. Jobe is such a great teacher! I love this class.

  20. 1. I believe the tests have been reasonably challenging. Out of all the questions, I believe that the word problems are the most challenging ones of all. We have to show what the variables represent and also have to show all work. Although I know what the problem is asking me, I sometimes tend to make minor mistakes which means the teacher will deduct two to three points in the word problems.
    2. I think Mr Jobe adequately prepared us for tests because he gave us plenty of time to study in class. We also have time in class to ask Mr. Jobe when we are have difficulty solving some questions. We also played review games and by doing that I got some brief knowledge about how test questions will be.
    3. Until now, I would have to say that my favorite part about Algebra class was the 30 second video. It was fun because I had fun with my partner and also learned about new properties such as definition of division and definition of subtraction. My least favorite part was the tests and quizzes. It is not that I got bad grades, but the word “test” or “quiz” makes me get nervous. So, I just don’t like them. But I agree, we have to take exams.
    4. To improve this class, we should have a whole period for just reviewing, reviewing, reviewing for test. This day should be right before the exam. Other than that, I like everything of what we do in the class for now. Also, I have a suggestion.

    1. I feel like the tests have been reasonably challenging. Word problems genuinely make me feel challenging because it makes me think at least twice until I’m pretty sure with the answer. However, except for few problems, other problems were not that challenging because we went over those types of question during class at least 3 times.

    2. I feel like Mr. Jobe adequately prepared you for the tests due to the review game and class work we went over together. Mr. Jobe had explained all the information we need to know for the test and this makes us fully understand the concepts of this unit.

    3. My favorite parts about math class so far was the review game we did last time. There were a lot of problems we could make mistakes on the test and also some complicating problems too. However, due to this game we could get better grades in the future because we prepared for it. This review game was really helpful for the test and I would like to play this game before the test. So far, there’s no least favorite part of this class because I love the way Mr. Jobe teach us enjoyably.

    4. I don’t have any suggestions for this class to improve because this class is really enjoyable and I never feel that this class was boring because Mr. Jobe teach us very well and he makes sure that everyone fully understand the ideas.

  22. Do you feel like the tests have been reasonably challenging? If they are challenging to you, what makes them challenging? If they are not challenging to you, what types of problems would make them more challenging?

They were not very challenging, but I failed the test: Translating and Absolute Value. I made a lot of mistakes, not reading the instructions carefully, enough. For me, word problems are always challenging.

    2. Do you feel like Mr. Jobe adequately prepared you for the tests? Explain why or why not.

Yes, Mr.Jobe adequately prepared us for the tests. I felt as if he was going over all the essential points we necessarily had to learn.

    3. What has been your favorite part about math class so far? What has been your least favorite part?

My favorite part about math class was when we didn’t have any home work, which was usually before tests and my least favorite part was when I was taking tests.

What suggestions do you have to improve this class?

I believe nothing should be improved except for 2 things. First of all, I am not really satisfied with the sitting arrangement. I wish we could just sit anywhere we want. Secondly, I don’t really like the riddles we have to solve by answering the math problems. They are boring.

  23. 1. Do you feel like the tests have been reasonably challenging? If they are challenging to you, what makes them challenging? If they are not challenging to you, what types of problems would make them more challenging?
I'm not sure how the others felt about the test, but in my opinion seeing it from my point of view, the tests taken until this point was plain easy. In the past, I was sure of my math skills but sometimes struggled with the time limits. But this year, I can feel that the tests are much shorter. When it was about 6-7 pages in Pre-Algebra, it is only half of that, or even less in Algebra. Maybe this is because I had a different teacher, but this has given me more time to check the test over again, lessening the chance of having mistakes. I believe that the tests should play around more with instructions like on the first test, where you had to really read the instructions to get everything right. I liked that, because it made me focus even more.

    2. Do you feel like Mr. Jobe adequately prepared you for the tests? Explain why or why not.
Yes, I believe that we were adequately prepared for the tests. Everything on the test was either things covered in class, or from the past years. There were nothing new that we did not yet learn about. All the information on the tests could be found on the textbook, with no external source added. The review games were also a great practice, even though I pretty much failed it because of pressure, for a piece of chocolate.

    3. What has been your favorite part about math class so far? What has been your least favorite part?
My favorite part about math class so far has been that we have a hardcover book, not an online book. I hate online textbooks, yes they weigh like nothing at all because it is in the internet, but to me I hate the navigations, the constant lags, and the shut downs every once in a while. I feel like if I focus better with just the book itself. Also, to tell the truth, it is much easier to concentrate when doing my homework in the last minute! For class, I like how we have to constantly solve equations and expressions on the board, because that is much better than you just talking over and over, it refreshes my brain.

    4. What suggestions do you have to improve this class?
I like the way classes are now; but I would like to get more challenging homework. I'm not bragging here, but it only takes a maximum of 10 minutes to complete an homework assignment. I believe that my math skills would improve much more if I were challenged with harder questions. Also, the easiness has taken and drained out the fun of solving hard questions by thinking hard. To be honest, it's making math class boring. So, it would be great to solve many different kinds of questions, but not too much, because then it would get too stressful! Also, I do not like the seating charts, you know that we can behave when we sit with our friends!
