Invent a Review Game


Invent a new review game for the end of a chapter. How would it be structured? Would there be a clearly-defined winner? Make sure this game incorporates everyone in the class, where everyone is actively reviewing the material on some level.

(This blog will be graded based upon the thoughtfulness of your answer.)

  1. My invented review game that would be played at the end of each chapter would be called Ladders. Each person would get a whiteboard, a marker, and an eraser. Then, the teacher would post a ladder-shaped board on the screen through the projector. Each person would be given a random question on the same algebra concept, and they would solve it on their whiteboards. When the teacher said "Stop", then all of the students would put down their markers and lift their boards. Each person who got their own questions right would be able to go "up" on the ladder, and whoever didn't get the question right or didn't finish would be disqualified. In this manner, the game would be finished when only one person was left on the ladder. If there were less than four people on the ladder, then the teacher would give them random questions until there was only one person left on the ladder. The last person on the ladder would be the winner.

    Math spoons!!!
    The class will get around in a circle and play the game. Everyone will have 4 math cards. There will be spoons in the middle of the circle. (The number of spoons depends on the number of people. If there are 20 people, there will be 19 spoons.) Before the game starts, they will have to solve the 4 math cards. The leftover math cards deck (which has to be at least 40 cards) will be next to the first person who will start. The first person will start by pulling a card from a deck. He/she will solve the math problem, and then check his/her 4 math cards to see if the card is any useful. The goal of this game is to make all four cards equal. If the card is useful, you will put it in your 4 cards. Instead, you will pick one card out of your 5 cards and pass it on to next person. You can only have 4 cards at a time. If the card is not useful, you just pass it on. It keeps going on and on, until one person has all 4 cards. Then, the person has to grab a spoon carefully as they can, so that others will not notice. Some people may notice, and they will also grab the spoon but everyone will play on until one person does not have a spoon. That one person will go out, and a spoon will be taken out. The game continues and the last two people are the winners!

    *The actual game “Spoons” has to be very fast, but one has to solve the math problems, so it will take slower than usual.

  3. This review game is called “3 strikes and you’re out.” The teacher can choose if he/she wants to make it an individual game, or with teams of two~three. Basically, the teacher puts everyone’s name in a jar. Then randomly, he/she would pick a name. Then, the person or team that got picked has a chance to answer a math question worth 5 points. If they get it right, they win the 5 points. If they get it wrong, they get one “strike.” As you might have noticed, if you get 3 strikes, then you’re disqualified from the game. Also, after the person or team got it wrong, everyone else gets a chance to answer that question. On a whiteboard or a piece of paper, everyone(except for the team/person that got it wrong) would write their answer, and when the teacher says to lift your answers, each person or team with the right answer would get 1 point each. The teams/people that got it wrong would get one strike also. Then, the game continues on until one team is left, or a team reaches 30 points. The first team/person to reach 30 points would be the winner. And, if only one team is left, that team would be the winner.

  4. Ok so I don't have any website that helped me make this game so it's not gonna be as creative. So what I was thinking is, you form into groups of 4 and you pretty much spin a coin, if you get heads then you have to solve a hard question, if you get tails then you get to solve an easy question, so once you solve it and you get it right then you get to decide what the hard and easy question will be for the next person that spins the coin and you get a win point, in the other hand if you lose then you get a mark off/a lose point, so pretty much you have to count the amount of loses and wins you get, the person with the most loses from each team must do something super embarrasing in someone elses class.

  5. Algebra can be hard to understand for some people, but if they play this game I made. It’ll be no big deal. Everyone in the class can participate, teacher will choose only one drawer from the class and the rest of the class have to solve the question using 5 steps correctly. The first person who get the correct answer will get a piece of candy.
    So the game is called “Pictogram”. The student has to depict the word problem clearly. Word problems for this game would be like “Shelly made five more sales calls than Clark. Shelly and Clark made a total of 33 sales calls. How many sales calls did each make?” Drawer will draw a picture explaining this and students will be able to solve it by just looking at the picture.

  6. The review game which I will make is creating a math monopoly. It is just like the normal monopoly just that instead of the lands, it is math questions and if you fail to solve it you have to stay in the block until you solve the question while others move on however, if you have a hard time solving it, you can ask other people for help or ask a teacher. The rules are simple, no cheating and to have fun. For the materials you will need the math monopoly, dice, and anything which would be used as your block. To play this game you go around the math monopoly land and solve questions and each questions have different points and the person with the most point wins!

  7. My game is structured similarly to Stratego. There will be 6 people in each group. Each member will represent one marker of that team as a chess piece on a chess board. The goal is to capture the other groups' captains. You can only move one space at a time diagonally, horizontally, or vertically. To capture other people's markers your whole team has to answer different questions in 25seconds. If they do, the member of the team who's marker was captured has to go to the attacking team. If all of the members do not get their problem correct, then the attacking piece will just stay where it was before the attack. Once all but one team remains, the original starting team wins the game.

  8. My game is called "the hot potato". Is a really simple game and is easy to understand. You only need a ball and questions for the game. The game works like this. First you throw the ball to someone and that person who got the ball needs to solve the problem on the board (or the screen). Here is the trick, you have certain amount of time and if you can't solve the problem with in time or get the wrong answer you get out of the game. For example when there was 20 people you give 1min each and when there is 10 people you give 50 sec and so on. You give harder problems each time the people decrease. The most fun part will be the last part because there will be only 2 person left and the winner will get a prize!

  9. I think a good review game for a test is Math Campions League. This game is played by teams of 2 that Mr.Jobe makes. First, Mr.Jobe puts review questions on the big table, 2 questions per sheet,turn the paper over so nobody can see and stack them up on the left side of the table.Also number the sheets in the right hand corner so that you can check the answers easily. Then Mr.Jobe sets the table into rectangles, each rectangle consists of 4 table,2 tabes facing other 2 tables. Then the teams go around the class to find thier opponent. After they find a opponent, one person from the 2 teams gets a question from the table. Then as soon as the person brings in the question and flips it over the teams start to solve the question. When both of the players in a team finishes, they go to Mr.Jobe to get checked, but both players has to show work. And the first team to get the right answer is the winner. When they are finished with a question, those finished questions go to the right side of the table. Then they go and find another opponent and repeat the procedure untill 5~10 minutes of class time is left. When there are about 5~10 mintues left Mr.Jobe finds 2 team with the most wins, and those 2 teams play for the final, and who ever wins in that game is the winner and gets the prize.

  10. The game I invented will be called The Math Casket. The class mates should evenly divide into two teams. They will have to find one box each (one box per team) and the boxes will be very hard to find in the classroom. There will be small box and in the box there will be some kind of a very hard or very long review question. The teacher will have an answer key ready to check that has all the answers from the questions in the box. After the teams solves the first question in the box the teacher will assign them another hard and challenging question on a paper for each team. The team who solves the last question first will win (but need to have the correct answer) and therefore, the teacher must give the student a special extra credit on there previous quiz, test, assignment, classwork or homework.

  11. The review game that I invented is called “Color the Math Brains”. This game is quite different from the common card games, and it’s like a small tournament.This game can be played individually or you can get into groups of 2 or more people. Then, the teacher/student will write the questions down on the board (multiple choice question), and each person get 4 different colored cards. For example, if the question is 2+2, there will be different answers such as 1, 2, 3, or 4 as answers, and the teacher will tell tell you to hold up a certain color depending on the answer by saying something like, “if you think the answer is 3 hold up your green card, and if you think it’s 4, hold up your blue card.” You will get 4 chances because there are 4 cards, and the questions will be written on the board one by one. The first people to get all the questions right will start over with the people who also got all the answers right, and you will have to try winning among the other people. Since this is like a tournament, the questions will get harder, and the teacher/student will start timing you if you and your rival is getting the answer right at about the same time. The final winner will receive a prize.

  12. This game is called "The Variable Transport." First, everyone should be divided into groups of six or seven, and they get into a line. Everyone except for the person in front of the line will get plus, minus, times, or divide a number (for example, plus five, minus nine, etc.), a variable, or the word 'bracket.' This should be told to each person secretly. The person at the end of the line will whisper their number, variable, or bracket, and the next person has to memorize what the person before have said, and this continues until the whole equation is created, and reaches the front of the line, and that person has to solve it. For example, lets say that the person at the end of the line got the number six. He or she will whisper "six" to the next person, and the next person, who's number is plus three, will say "six plus three" to the next person, and it will continue. If the equation is correct, and the person in front of the line solves it correctly, the team gets two points. If the equation was made wrong, but the person solved it correctly, they get only one point. To make this game fair, the team should change the order in where they stand every round so that everyone gets a chance to solve, and memorize. The winning team with the most points will be the winner.

  13. This game is called “Physical Jeopardy”. Jeopardy is for groups or singles. This game is similar to very similar to Jeopardy besides using math to solve the questions. In Jeopardy as you know you get points by 100, 200, 300 but in this game the max is 500 points. This game is very simple. You choose a point like 500-100 points. When you choose one you get a math equation, you have a time period of 1 to 2 minutes depending how hard or easy( it will be labeled). (Note: Other teams must solve too.) Once you solve the question check with the host. If you get the question right you just have to do 5 jumping jacks. If you get it wrong you have to dance to anything for 1 whole minute. The one main rule is everyone has to solve and anyone can be called from your table random.

  14. We could use a interactive chess game, where the class divides into two groups and play two different teams. The team has a representative, and every time they want to advance in the board, they must answer the question on the pop up window as a team. The team has to discuss their answers and decide on one answer. They are given a certain amount of time, and by the end the representative must stand up and say their answer. If they get the right answer, they move. If they get the wrong answer, the turn automatically goes to the other team. The two teams take turns as it goes. The first team to shout out checkmate wins.

  15. My review game is called: Round n' Solve!
    My game is involves: 5+ people playing (includes one person saying "solve", and deciding the champions, the rest 4 are the game players) , a jar with a big hole, paper, pencil
    This game has a clearly defined winner- the 3 champions!
    These are the steps.
    1. Every members of the game make 4 math problems, that at the minimum, includes variables, subtraction, multiplication, and exponents. (Make it hard!) It should be written on a piece of paper.
    2. Fold that piece of paper in half, so it can't be seen.
    3. Then it should be put in a jar, with a hole large for everyone to stick their hands in.
    4. After, everyone gets a piece of paper and a pencil to write the answers down.
    5. The jar is passed around throughout the whole members. They should not be seeing the math problem written on the paper.
    6. The "Round Person" (who says "solve" and the one that decides the champion) says "Solve!".
    7. The class would solve their math problem, and whoever solves it correct first, will be the winner.
    8. The rest of the class (who are not winners) goes over the jar again. The paper used in the first round should not be used!
    9. After 3 champions are figured out (1st, 2nd, 3rd) by the "Round Person", the game is over!

  16. The game that I invented is called, " Moving toward the castle." First, Mr. Jobe divides up into 4 teams. You draw 24 blocks that looks like a square on the piece of paper. Both two teams solve a equation for each block and whenever they have a right answer, they move to another one block. However, when you have a wrong answer, you move back but there's a change to stay still because each team gets a 1 bonus marks to stay. You can use this once per game. Team who first goes to the last block win this game! This game helps you to work in a group (team work), and also to solve a question quick within a correct answer.

The game is called "Jumper", everyone is grouped into groups of 5, and given a number (1 2 3 4 and 5), the teacher would write a math question on the board, and students are given time to solve the question and share it with everyone in the group, the teacher would yell "JUMP (insert a number from 1 to 5" and the person in each group with the corresponding number would jump out and yell out the answer. The first to yell out the answer gets a point for their group and the group in the end the group with the highest point would win, getting some sort of reward or "a pad in the back". This makes it so that everyone participate in the game and noone would be left-out or not working.

  18. My review game is a simple card game. Everyone will write ten questions on ten different pieces of paper and make a pile with the questions and shuffle them. Next, everyone will take ten random cards. Then, students needs to get a partner. When everyone has a partner, the game begins. Both players will put their cards face down and chooses who goes first. The winner will choose a card randomly and flip them. The player who answers correctly gets the card. Who ever has the most cards gets to win.

The name of the review game I invented is called, “The Scavenger Hunt.” First, he or she (or someone) has to write down a set of numbers, 1~100, down on a piece of paper, each numbers written separately on each pieces of paper. Then, he or she (or someone) has to fold up the pieces of paper, neatly. Also, he or she (or someone) has to make up 100 questions, listed #1~#100 down on a piece of paper. Also, there has to be someone waiting in the classroom, who is in charge of the piece of paper where all the questions are written down. After that, he or she (or someone) has to go around the school to hide these pieces of paper, each in different locations in the school. I recommend to only hide them in the Middle School Building, since it might be hard to find if they were hidden all around the school. Then, the people who are waiting in the classroom has to go around the school, searching for the pieces of paper. Once, a person has found a piece of paper, he or she has to come back in the classroom as quickly as possible. Once, a person has arrived at the classroom, that person has to take the piece of paper they found to the person who is in charge of the “questions”. Then, the person would have to answer a question. For instance, if the person found a piece of paper which has the number 4 written down, they would have to answer the #4 question. Basically, if the person says the answer correctly, they get a token. If the person says the incorrect answer, then that person will get a yellow card. The second time a person gets wrong, that person will receive a red card and will be disqualified from the game. If a person receives a red card, they would have to go back to their seats and seat down. The person who is in charge of the “questions”, then have to cross out the question the other people have answered, whether they got it wrong or right. After answering a question, people who haven't received a red card yet, can go back to find more pieces of paper. This game ends when all the pieces of paper have been found, which basically means, there are no left questions to answer. The person possessing the most tokens will be the winner. If there are two people who have the same amount of tokens, they will have to do Rock-scissor-paper and the person who loses will be the winner of this game. The winner will receive a prize, such as getting a bonus point for the day.

  20. My game is very simple. 3 or 4 people a group. Every group has got a deck of playing cards. Teacher write the question on the board and student can solve the problem and found the cards. For example if the answer is 26, you can take 2 card "K" or you can take a "6",a "Q" and a "8". After everyone got their card, check everyone's answer in group. If all group members are right, they will get a point.
